KidsPak is a hunger relief program.

If you or anyone in the school learning community suspect a student is showing signs of hunger, or food insecurity, please contact your building administration for the simple referral process. ALL students are eligible and confidentiality is honored.

Signs of Hunger

General

  • Extreme hunger on Monday morning
  • Quickly eating all of the food served and asking for more
  • Asking when the next meal/snack will be served
  • Regularly asking for food
  • Making statement about skipping meals at home
  • Saving/hoarding/stealing food to take home or asking students for food they do not want
  • Comments about not having enough food at home

School Performance

  • Frequent absences or tardiness
  • Low energy, sleeps in class
  • Easily irritated/angry
  • Chronic sickness
  • Feeling unsteady/faint
  • Anxious
  • Lack of concentration
  • Slow memory recall
  • Underperforming academically

Physical Appearance

  • Overweight or underweight and/or malnourished, puffy/swollen skin
  • Sudden weight loss or weight gain
  • Dry cracked lips
  • Chronically dry/itchy eyes
  • Decaying teeth
  • Complains of headaches
  • Spoon shaped fingernails
  • Bloated stomach

Home Environment

  • Has experienced/is experiencing being unhoused
  • Family crisis/trauma
  • Loss of household income
  • Moves frequently
  • Child or siblings often prepares own meals
  • Changes in federal/state guidelines
  • Families worry food will run out at home
  • Other changes in a student's home situation
